Up, down, across, back, forth, pause, reverse, diagonal, up…repeat, repeat, change. Think of a Rubik's cube with each square a television monitor—six rows across and six rows down, thirty-six screens flicking images to the pulsating, rhythmic sounds of drum and bass and you have Lisa Reihana's video wallpiece Tauira (1993). The work is fast, smooth and masterfully choreographed, combining images endlessly yet, unlike a Rubik's cube, there is no winning, final manoeuvre. Even with the colours in place…
