Not only was the Art Gallery of New South Wales show 'Modern Boy, Modern Girl: Modernity in Japanese Art 1910 - 1935' the first exhibition of Japanese modern art in Australia, it was also the scene of a previously unwitnessed level of activity and interest in Japanese society of the modern period.
